Somewhere along the way, I started to feel like a phony. Not that anything I post is contrived or staged; I just began to feel like I'm leaving parts of myself out. On top of that, I find myself taking pictures for the sole purpose of blogging. I focus on the documentation instead of enjoying the experience for what it is. Often bloggers orchestrate experiences in their life that are fodder for their blog (there's nothing inherently wrong with this; if you blog about food it would make sense to go to restaurants just to blog about it). The problem I find myself in, which probably just speaks to a greater cultural phenomenon in the age of social media, is that I find myself living my life how I would like to be photographed. I then present my life, my interests, my opinions in a way that is most aesthetically pleasing and inoffensive as possible. When you're trying to figure out what the hell you're doing with your life while simultaneously trying to convey to online followers that your life is peaches, you get one heck of an impostor complex.

On my tumblr I don't have a filter. I reblog the things I like or agree with, I post webcam pics of myself when I'm feeling extra fierce, I talk about body positivity, feminism, human rights, and my faith with reckless abandon. I follow all kinds of people, from pastors to lgbtq activists, discussing everything from theology, to pizza, to cervical fluid (yeah, my dashboard is that random). When I look at my tumblr page, it doesn't look pretty, it doesn't have the continuity of one theme, but I think it accurately reflects the things I'm interested in. The only problem is most of the content is not originally mine. I'm recycling other people's ideas and photos to convey what I'm all about. This is all sounding way more deep and "what does it all mean?" than I wanted it to. But hey.
So rather than give up on one medium or the other, I want to reconcile the two. I'm going to keep using tumblr to gather my inspiration, and I would like to use blogger to put my own voice in the mix. I'm still into fashion and taking pictures, so outfits photos and pictures from outings may still make appearances, but I'd like to add more of myself to the equation. I'd like to talk about things I'm passionate about every once in awhile, even though sometimes it's not pretty.
p.s. I got a tattoo.
you are rad. looking forward to more :)
