Today is my first day of school! My first class was in the morning and my other class was at 5pm (my schedule is wonky). Within 30 seconds of arriving on campus, I met a girl named Paige who was asking me for directions and I had no idea where I was going either, so we walked together and had a very pleasant conversation! Non-awkward human interaction ftw! First impression of the student life: everyone seems really nice, but I think I'm going to miss the diversity of Phoenix College. I feel like I got a lot out of my community college experience just by brushing elbows with people who have a different life experiences.
Anyway, on to the business at hand. In my last post, I wrote up a little proposition, and since nobody commented, it would appear that nobody is excited about it. Or maybe you don't want to get volunteered to write an essay when you have better things to do. I did a little thinking, and things are still up in the air, but I think it might be easier to digest if I did it interview style. So instead of each writer feeling pressured to come up with some nuance social commentary, I'd just present a series of questions and each contributor could answer as they please. I'm not sure what will become of this project or if it will even catch on, but the purpose is to reflect on things we've learned and counteract some of the negative messages that are thrown at teen girls from every angle. I would love for it to be a collaboration, so if you are interested in contributing, or have any ideas for the questionnaire format, email me at kristenefournier@gmail.com.
